An animation of the lightning sequence
The electrical activity associated with this explosion was the most intense and prolific of
all the previous events. The initial activity consisted of 5 moderately sized, discrete
discharges centered over Redoubt during the first 4 minutes. Lightning intensity quickly
increased, and throughout the whole sequence there was always lightning located over the
volcano.
