An animation of the lightning sequence:
Plume heights up to 18.3 km were measured during this explosion. Total duration of
electrical activity was 34.4 minutes. Electrical activity began at approximately 17:25.
The initial activity was amorphous, random
and located over the vent. This phase was very brief; after 40 seconds more structured lightning
had taken over, building up to obvious, but small, discrete discharges by 17:33.
